Pick up your yacht, meet the lead crew and get to know your new flotilla friends at our base in the pretty town of Lefkas. You’ll have time to provision your yacht and soak up the relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere before setting sail for two weeks of adventure on the Ionian Sea. Enjoy a meal in a local taverna or get to know one another better over an ouzo in a waterside bar.

Your first spell out on the water takes you south out of the marina and through the narrow channel that separates Lefkas from the mainland. Hug the coast and continue south, taking in the views of Lefkas’ mountainous coastline until the mouth of Vlikho Bay opens before you. This large, sheltered anchorage is the perfect overnight stop for your first night away from the marina, and gives you the chance to explore a couple of charming Greek towns nestled along the waterside.

Vlikho to Sivota, Lefkas

Gaios

Leave Vlikho in your wake and continue your journey south along the island’s coast. You’ll pass tiny Skorpios and the larger island of Meganisi, which you’ll get to know better later on. Swing east around the headland at Mokros Gialos and turn into the second bay, where the village of Sivota is waiting for you. This photogenic spot boasts fragrant pine forests and olive groves to explore, as well as a handful of lovely bars and restaurants scattered along the scenic waterfront.

Sivota

Head south from the bay at Sivota and prepare to make your first island hop, sailing past Arkoudi island on your way through the turquoise Ionian to nearby Ithaca. Cruise along the island’s pretty eastern shore until you reach Kioni, tucked into a sheltered bay of gently rolling hills. This peaceful spot is quintessential island Greece, so soak up the atmosphere with a lazy afternoon on the beach or in the bar.

Now that you’ve had time to grow accustomed to your yacht and develop your confidence on the water, your two free sailing days are a chance to explore the hidden treasures of the Ionian Sea. Circle around to Ithaca’s western coast or head east across the Ionian Sea to the scattered islands of Atokos, Makri, Vromonas and Modi. If you’re unsure of where to go next, your lead crew will provide you with local recommendations and up to date weather reports to ensure you make the right choice.

Paleros

You’ll begin your Meganisi adventure with a 12nm passage across to the mainland town of Paleros. Paleros is a great spot to catch the local flavour of the Ionian Isles, offering summertime puppet shows, theatrical performances and traditional Greek dancing in the town square. Enjoy the traditional flotilla punch party and dine on freshly caught octopus, bream and bass with your flotilla companions at one of the many waterfront tavernas.

Kalamo

Today you’ll enjoy a stretch of coastal line-of-sight sailing from Paleros down to the town and eponymous island of Kalamos. The port is a lovely place to moor, scattered with shops, traditional tavernas and Greek bars dotted along the harbour and beachfront.

Take the walk up from the harbour to the ruins of the monastery for fantastic views over the Ionian towards mainland Greece.

Unfurl your sails and let the wind take you across the gentle Ionian. Cruise east past the northern end of Ithaca and verdant Arkoudi, squeezing into the channel between the islands of Kastos and Kalamos. Tucked into a scenic bay on the western end of Kalamos you’ll find the abandoned village of Port Leone. This peaceful spot is a Mediterranean ghost town of ruined houses, with a local church and olive press still used by villagers from neighbouring Fiskardo.

You’ll pass the small island of Atokos on your starboard side as you sail east from Fiskardo. Anchor at this island of spectacular white cliffs and secluded beaches for a relaxed lunch break away from the hustle and bustle.

Make for the eastern coast of beautiful Meganisi, spread like a many-fingered hand over the flawless blue counterpane of the Ionian Sea. Sail into deep and sheltered Port Athene, where you’ll find a cluster of traditional Mediterranean houses crowding around the picturesque harbour. Enjoy traditional Greek dancing and delicious seafood in the local taverna with your flotilla companions.

Katomeri Village

Take the half hour jaunt inland to the traditional Ionian village of Katomeri and explore the gift shops, tavernas, bars and cafés dotted amidst stone houses colourfully decorated with flowers.

Sail north from Port Athene, slowly making your way past the islands of Skorpios and Sparti while hugging the coast of mountainous Lefkas. Take your time and enjoy your last day out on the sparkling Ionian Sea, or head back early and make the most of all that Lefkas has to offer.
