Stacey in Phuket!

Sunsail Reservations Consultant Stacey Martin is based in the Whitsundays and recently spent two weeks experiencing Thailand for the first time...........

After just a fortnight travelling around Thailand, I can honestly say I would have been happy to stay forever. For someone who lives on Hamilton Island in the beautiful Whitsundays, that is certainly saying something!   I was absolutely captivated by the charm of the local people, the spectacular and ever-changing scenery and the colourful culture and was truly sorry to leave.

In a trip that was jam-packed full of highlights, I would have to say that the time spent sailing through Sunsail’s cruising area in Phuket was my overall favourite experience.

Phang Nga Bay, a national marine park, is an area of unspoilt natural beauty.  Filled with the towering limestone mountains that rise from the sea, countless hours could be spent exploring the myriad of islands and their fascinating hongs or just lying back on deck and soaking up the postcard surrounds.

There is something in the cruising area to suit every type of  holidaymaker. You can anchor your yacht at Koh Yang and take a longtail boat to the world-famous James Bond Island or perhaps visit Koh Pan Yi, which is a typical Muslim Gyspy sea village built on stilts.   For dazzling white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, you can’t go past the Phi Phi Islands (also made famous by the blockbuster movie The Beach). The swimming and snorkelling in this area is second to none with loads of coral reefs to explore and an abundance of colourful and curious marine life.

You can also venture ashore to explore islands such as the Chicken Islands or Koh Phi Phi, where you will find mouth-watering restaurants, vibrant bars and small shops where you can obtain basic provisions.

Once you have left the marine park of Phang Nga Bay, there are restaurants at most anchorages. Delicious Thai or western food is cooked to order using only the freshest ingredients.   Seafood features heavily on all menus and the amazing prices are almost as good as the food itself.  Even when eating at good restaurants, your meal will only cost an average of AUD$5, making it affordable to treat your tastebuds every night!

Thailand is an amazing destination and is wonderful value for money.  I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to experience the holiday of a lifetime and I personally cannot wait to go back!
